EMDR

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and is a framework developed for facilitating trauma recovery (but can also treat other psychological issues).

It is an extensively researched method for treating short-term, single-incident trauma (such as car accidents), but is also effective in treating long-term, complex traumas (such as child abuse, combat-related PTSD and domestic violence).  EMDR has also been used in the treatment of phobias, performance anxiety, general anxiety, complicated grief, and addictions to name a few.

EMDR and Art Therapy

I find that EMDR and art therapy complement each other and clients report the benefit of combining both in treatment.  EMDR is very effective, but can also be an very intense experience for clients.  Art therapy provides a way for clients to feel calm, integrate information, and build coping skills while undergoing EMDR treatment.
